New Mexico Blues

All rights reserved Edsall/Pisano    Derby Road Music

Key of D 6/8 time

Falling back into nothing, cold New Mexico night

There and like the horses I had leaving on my mind

The wind  rattled the walls and hammered through the sage

Back into nothing on the range around Santa Fe.

CH.

Oh the Pinyon, and sage

Comfort me

Townes Van Sandt on a windy day

with the New Mexico Blues

I’ve never been to Ft Worth, I never saw you live

But I read every book they wrote about your life

If ever I had met you, there wouldn’t be much to say

Living on the road makes us act that way

solo CH

I would have followed you down, into the darkness and light

But the lows were too dark and the highs just a little too bright

You passed in ’97, I suppose your race was run

I hear you in the wind now, the rain the snow and the sun

CH

end

I start my watch,  count down to go

lean on your neck whisper low…

You takeoff and I trust your eagle eye

we gallop on, seekin' those flags

When you were younger, you could not canter straight

we shied, we piled until I learned to wait

Now you’re  resting, in our back field,

Staring thru the window begging for your next meal

CH

Did I dream ...We’d get this far

Big red horse you’re my  angel  .....You’re my star

That carney road life in canvas stalls

I drove my rig til the wheels fell off

your voice in the morning, still starts my day

you count on me, for all your grass and hay

It's like sitting on a rocket,  right between my knees

So I threw that money down and brought you home, with me,

I was lonely then, just me and my horse

All by myself and wondering about divorce..

Solo (on D like part of fiddle tune Darlin Cory)

Now you have a friend, a power pellet black

I take him on the road, he always brings me back

His stride's  as long as yours, he’s brave and careful too

He is here and he loves to stand by you

Then There's the Rolling Stones

Mia Edsall   all rights reserved Derby Road Music

There’s the air that I breathe, the water I drink

There’s food that I eat, then there’s the Rolling Stones

There’s a car that I drive, there’s a horse that I ride

There’s the chances I take, then there’s the Rolling Stones

CH

Charlie went to heaven and flew to the clouds

I stopped my truck and played it real loud

Fingers on a devils chord, for another encore roar

Charlie got the beat, steadfast and sweet

Solo..vs format C#m, F#m, B, E A, A, Aflat

Ch Vox

Charlie sat close to Keith, for a musical feast

rooted and entwined, how my blues men shine

Lonesome

I fell in love with you and now I’m lonesome

Sad and walking out the door

I fell in love with you and now I’m lonesome

I can’t stand this feeling anymore

I’m singing high and lonesome

On this dingy stage tonight

I’m singing high and lonesome

Just me myself and I

Ch

My head hurts from drinking

My heart hurts from thinking

I’m walking the floor over you

My back hurts from working

My eyes hurt from searching

Every dive you’ve ever passed through

All we ever felt was lonesome

I just kept tagging along

All we ever felt was lonesome

Goodbye, farewell so long

Solo on CH.

Rock in the River

All rights reserved Derby Road Music Mia Edsall

CH

I’m a rock in the river

The river surrounds me

I'm making waves standing right here

I'm makin’ waves, the river keeps movin’

On and on for a thousand years

VS1

Here in the water, I'm stuck to the earth

With craggy rock mountains and the valley below

First came the natives, then came the trappers

Then came the miners panning for gold

1/2 ch. bridge

I'm still in the River

The river keeps moving

Flowing on for  thousand years

VS 2

I hear the sound from the big ole hotel

They’re dancing and drinking to honky tonk songs

I miss the sound and smell of the salmon

Sadly now, the salmon are gone

I’m in the quiet and beauty of time

It's dry and hot and the river's so low

The weather is changing, that's no surprise

I'm hoping this winter for twelve feet of snow

Dear Friend Pony

Pony (E)

I could not concentrate on my homework, late in the day

I’d slip on down, to the barn and brush my pony

I’d curry and comb him, copper penny bright

Then he’d step on my toe and I’d be limping all night

CH

Let’s ride pony, let’s go…not too fast, not too slow

Feel the air pony, green grass!

Take me for a ride in some open country, now

He had blonde in his tail and a blaze in a crooked line

I cantered through the field on my dear friend pony

We jumped tall fences and scared the grown ups so

We out ran them all, when the horn began to blow

CH

Bridge

Now I keep three horses, chestnut, black and bay

They’re my special friends, I’m with them everyday
